BELTE 2012 was held in Brighton on Saturday 20th October. Despite problems with the weather and transport delays, 317 people attended the conference. This one-day conference was sponsored by Study Group and the Sussex DOSA. As always the aim of the conference was to provide ELT professionals with access to new materials, methodology and training in a centre of excellence for English Language. Once again this was a highly successful event.
The mayor of Brighton and Hove, Bill Randall opened the proceedings with a short speech outlining the importance of ELT to Brighton (it is estimated that ELT adds £100 million of value to the town). This followed an opening diary of the day by Gordon Watts (Study Group and Sussex DoSA) and an address from Huan Japes, Deputy Chief Executive of EnglishUK, who discussed visa issues and Continuing Professional Development (CPD).
Delegates were able to attend a variety of talks (the full list of talks can be found here), browse the exhibition of 36 stands and many signed up for training sessions. Each visitor received 3 free language books and an idioms dictionary (compliments of Global ELT)
This is what Maria Angelakis from LivingLearning English had to say about the day: 'Thanks for a really lovely, free CPD day… staff helpful and friendly, sessions informative, free gifts wonderful… to be recommended'
On our facebook we've posted some of the photos from the conference.
Thank you to everyone who attended and everyone who helped to make the conference a success. We're all looking forward to next year's event.
